Scapa John Smith has been proclaimed absolute champion in the XXXVI edition of the José Ignacio Domecq Memorial on a great and splendid Sunday, when the first tournament of the Spring Season in Santa María Polo Club finalized.

The foursome that triumphed won over team Silex by 9-5, taking the lead from the very first chukka. The 5-chukka match was played in the Los Pinos fields and was surrounded by the best atmosphere, with lots of polo aficionados that visited the Club to enjoy a stunning polo spectacle. Roger and Roger JR Domecq, the grandson and great-grandson of José Ignacio Domecq were in charge of presenting the cup to the winning team. Los Dragones ended in the third place in this tournament, where 5 teams with up to 8 goals participated.

The season continues this next weekend with the Memorial Conde de Guaqui from 10th to 12th April, a sunny 8-goal tournament.

About the José Ignacio Domecq Memorial:
Held in honor of José Ignacio Domecq D. González, recognized winemaker and polo player.

He was born in Jerez de la Frontera on 31st July 1914 and died in the same city on 15th January 1997. He achieved 5-goal handicap, and when he was 76 years old he was still playing with 2 goals. Of his seven sons and four daughters, four of whom inherited his love for polo. Currently, its polo tradition is reflected in their grandchildren Roger and Jose Ignacio.
