Australia has started into a new polo year with the continuation of the successful “Polo by the Sea” series: On Saturday, 10th January 2015, the inaugural “Polo by the Sea” event at the new location Palm Beach took place. Four teams participated in the tournament at Hitchcock Park.
“It’s phenomenal to organise an event which captures the imagination of locals and visitors from further afield. By bringing the Polo to Palm Beach, we were hoping to tap into the idyllic ‘Hamptons vibe’ which is seen in the US, and we certainly have achieved this today. Palm Beach is an affluent area where a lot of people go for their holidays and it’s a highly desirable and recognizable address which we can promote internationally,” says Janek Gazecki, Creator and Organiser of both the Polo by the Sea (PBTS) and Polo in the City (PITC) events.
The opening game of the event, the Pro-AM Challenge, showcased the Battle of the International Brands, as Italy’s Santa Vittoria, including Brook Thomas, Mark Elworthy, Adam Meally and Beau Blundell, took on the French clothing brand Vicomte Arthur, consisting of Hugh Cochrane, Dean Caulfield, Ali Reda and Janek Gazecki. The match consisted of competitive play by both teams, however it was Santa Vittoria who took out the victory, winning 6-5.
“It was tough battle out there today. The adrenaline was pumping and it was highly competitive, but so much fun and a great team effort. We were all so lucky to play in such a perfect setting,” said Gazecki.
The day concluded with the with the feature National Polo League game which saw the Gold Coast team, sponsored by Investec, up against the Palm Beach team, sponsored by Northern Beaches Land Rover. Players Lochie Graham, Angus Graham, Angus Campbell and Nick Wills of the Palm Beach Land Rover team played a strong game, but Mark Lilyman, Jake Daniels, Bill Taylor and Jono Bayes of the Gold Coast Investec team was successful and won by 7-4.
Palm Beach is a northern beachside suburb of Sydney, located in the north of Sydney in New South Wales in Australia. The next event of “Polo by the Sea” will take place at Main Beach (Gold Coast) in Doug Jennings Park on Saturday, 30th May 2015.
