Tough final in Dubai

The Julius Bär Gold Cup has ended with a tough final: In the decisive match of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2015, Zedan defeated Bin Drai by 9-7 in a very tight game.

Patron Amr Zedan’s team achieved for the first time the important trophy. With superstar Pablo Mac Donough (+10), MVP of the final, and the backup of Martín Gándara (+4) and Facundo Fernández Llorete (+4), patron Amr Zedan (0) made a very competitive team to defeat a really tough opponent like Bin Drai, consisting of Saeed Bin Drai (0), Agustín Canale (+6) Manuel Fernández Llorente (+6) and Raúl Laplacette (+6) in the final match.

In a very tight match, the talent of Mac Donough was the big difference in between the two teams. Pablo, two times Triple Crown Champion with La Dolfina, decided the game in favour of Zedan in the last minute of the final with two consecutive goals.

Pablo Mac Donough’s mare, Irenita Pimienta from the Argentinean Polo Breeders Association, was the Best Playing Pony. Verónica from Bin Drai Polo Team and played by Manolo Fernández Llorente was also awarded by the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club.

Abu Dhabi won the Bentley Cup after defeating Mahra Polo in the final by 7-5 in another tough final at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. Abu Dhabi Patron Faris Al Yabhouni was named the best amateur of the final.

The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series (Dubai Open) is the highest handicap tournament in the Middle East, Africa and Asia and the fourth-largest tournament of its kind after Argentina, US and the UK. First founded by Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009, the tournament is the premier regional polo competition of the year, and attracts VIPs, society figures, and senior corporate executives from across the GCC. It has grown in tandem with the city of Dubai and since 2012, it is the only tournament in the UAE to be recognized and certified by the World Polo Tour (WPT).
