The first match days of the 2015 Hurlingham Open HSBC presentado por QBE Seguros La Buenos Aires, which were held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pilar grounds owned by the Asociación Argentina de Polo, showed highly competitive matches and thus gave a foretaste of the upcoming games of the second part of the Argentine Triple Crown, whetting the spectators’ appetite to see more.

On Tuesday, 20th October, the first match saw La Dolfina, winning team of last year’s edition of the event, defeat newcomer team Washington by a large margin. Adolfo Cambiaso (+10), David Stirling (+10), Pablo Mac Donough (+10) and Juan Martín Nero (+10) of La Dolfina beat Diego Cavanagh (+8), Ezequiel Martinez Ferrario (+7), Facundo Sola (+8) and Alfredo Cappella Barabucci (+8) by a clear result of 22-12. In the second match the spectators witnessed an exciting competition as La Aguada Las Monjitas, including Ignacio Toccalino (+9), Francisco Bensadon (+9), Eduardo Novillo Astrada (+9) and Alejandro Novillo Astrada (+8), beat La Aguada, consisting of Agustín Merlos (+8), Guillermo Terrera (+8), Guillermo Caset (+9) and Ignacio Novillo Astrada (+9), by a narrow margin, 13-12. Francisco Bensadon currently replaces Sebastián Merlos, who is unable to play due to an injury.

On the next day the teams of zone B met to fight for victory. In the first match Ellerstina, last year’s finalist of the Hurlingham Open, encountered Magual. Alejandro Muzzio (+8), Francisco Elizalde (+7), Marcos Di Paola (+8) and Santiago Toccalino (+8) of team Magual gave Ellerstina a hard fight. Nevertheless in the end the three brothers Nicolás Pieres (+9), Gonzalo Pieres (+10) and Facundo Pieres (+10) as well as their cousin Pablo Pieres (+10) emerged victorious and won by 15-13. In the following match Alegría, including Cristian Laprida (+8), Hilario Ulloa (+9), Lucas Monteverde (+9) and Frederick Mannix (+9), defeated Chapaleufú, consisting of Alberto Heguy (+8), Ignacio Heguy (+9), Bautista Heguy (+8) and Eduardo Heguy (+9), in a fierce competition by 19-18.

Tomorrow the action continues on 2.00 p.m. (local time) with Zone A: La Aguada competing against Washington and La Dolfina encountering La Aguada Las Monjitas on 4.00 p.m. (local time).
