16th July saw the semi finals of the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the British Polo Open Championships take place at Cowdray Park Polo Club, with Dubai and King Power going through to the final round this Sunday 20th July. Two extremely closely contested matches took place. Rashid Albwardy (0), Alastair Paterson (+3), Adolfo Cambiaso (+10) and Diego Cavanagh (+7) of team Dubai faced newcomers to the tournament Halcyon Gallery with George Hanbury (+3), Mark Tomlinson (+6), James Beim (+7) and James Harper (+6). The all-English team just losing out on a place in the final by 1 goal with a final score of 9-8.
The second match of the day took place between Top Srivaddhanaprab (0), Pablo Llorente (+5), Gonzalito Pieres (+10) and Marcos di Paola (+7) of team King Power and Lucchese with John Muse (0), Lucas James (+7), Nico Pieres (+8) and Luke Tomlinson (+7). Despite playing a fairly equal game for the first few chukkas, King Power managed to pull ahead in the final stages of the match to guarantee themselves a place in the final with a score of 14-10.
The final of the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup will be taking place this Sunday 20th July on Lawns 1 at Cowdray Park Polo Club at 3pm. Polo+10 will be present at the event to keep you all informed of the proceedings.
