On the past weekend, the second edition of the Cultura Mezcal Polo Cup and Mexican Art Festival once again gathered polo players from Mexico, the USA, Argentina, Great Britain, Switzerland and Spain at the Ibiza Polo Club. The event combined various art disciplines with the fast-paced sport of polo.
On Saturday, two teams fought for the Copa Ibiza Style. In a highly competitive match, the team from Mexico, including Javier Solorzano (0), Alejandro da Sousa (0), Toño Madrazo (+3) and Guillermo Steta (+1), President of the Mexican Polo Federation, defeated Team Ibiza Polo Club, consisting of André Spillmann (0) from Switzerland, Chris Garland (+1) from Great Britain as well as Weston Gracida (+3) and Robert Waterstone (0) from the USA, and thus won the trophy.
The spectators witnessed another exciting polo match on Sunday with two teams competing against each other for the Copa Cultura Mezcal. This time victory went to the team of Ibiza Polo Club, including John Fiorito (+1) from the USA, Agustín Arestizábal (+2) and Lucas Fernández (+5) from Argentina and Gabriel Iglesias (+2) from Spain. The foursome won against the visiting team from Mexico, consisting of Diego Aguilar (0), Guillermo Steta (+1), Diego Solorzano (+6) and Chucho Solorzano (+3).
The event featured 2 top Mexican chefs, Marcela Bolaños and Carlos Valdes, as well as a Flamenco show by Naiara Núñez, a Mexican show and a performance by Isabelle Manhes, a renowned designer from Mexico. Next to Guillermo Steta, President of the Mexican Polo Federation, the tournament was also visited by another guest from Mexico: Giorgio Brignone, founder of the Mexican resort Costa Careyes.
Gabriel Iglesias, owner of Ibiza Polo Club: “It was an amazing weekend with a fantastic atmosphere! We already look forward to the third edition of the tournament, which will be held in September 2016.”
In January 2016, a team representing Ibiza Polo Club will visit Mexico and play at the most important polo clubs of the country, such as El Rey Polo Club, Yucatán Polo Club and also at Costa Careyes Polo Club, which is beautifully located at the Mexican pacific coast.
