A fantastic success: Team Engel & Völkers wins the German Championship with a 8:6 for the second time in a row at the Berlin Maifeld. In the finale of the Engel & Völkers Berlin Maifeld Cup Lukas Sdrenka (+1), James Miller (+1), Gastón Maíquez (+6) and Christopher Kirsch (+4) defeated Team Lanson with Harald Link (0) from Thailand, Andrew Hine (+5), Martin Inchauspe (+5) and Sterling Mc Gregor (+2).

They want to realize polo on a new level said Carsten Erfurt of the host team and they succeeded. The most important polo tournament of the republic – the German Championship in High Goal in front of the hoar scenery of the Berlin Olympic Stadium – had been bigger and even more attractive than in the years before. International top level, a huge accomplishment of the host and a sportive heavy weight, setting a new course in the German capital. In wonderful summer weather about 20,000 people in the audience followed the thrilling chukkers at the finale weekend and cheered for the title holder in the final game.

Together with the Argentine 6-scorer Gáston Maíquez, being unstoppable in this polo season and playing from success to success, James Miller from the US and the only 16-year-old exceptionally gifted Lukas Sdrenka from Hamburg, Christopher Kirsch (+4) made his promise true and defended the title successfully. And this against a more than serious opponent.

Extremely strong mounted Team Lanson around captain Harald Link, running the wonderful Thai Polo Club close to Bangkok for many years, had made it to the finale without losing any games. With Andrew Hine, the former captain and today ́s coach of the English national team, an outstanding playing Martin Inchauspe from Argentina and the Briton Sterling McGregor Team Lanson was already in the beginning one of the favorites. The quartet of title sponsor Engel & Völkers did not seem intimidated by this at any time. Already in the beginning of the finale Kirsch ́s team was betting on the victory. After a short lead of Lanson Lukas and Gastòn scored twice for Engel & Völkers. They built up the lead up to a 7:3, but then Inchauspe and Hine started the engines of Lanson and came closer and overtook to an end result of 6:8. Deserved and totally happy – a fantastic victory for Team Engel & Völkers.

Jo Schneider recieve the most valuable player whereas the mare Eneteca of Gastón Maíquez became best playing pony. The tournament officials named Adrian Laplacette, who played a outstanding match, the fairest player.

A sensational tournament with international shine, creating an unique polo event in Europe with atmosphere, a lot of love for the detail and the historic coulisse of the Maifeld. The first German Championship in High Goal Polo was played in 2010 at the Berlin Maifeld. Sylvia Gädeke, president oft the Prussian Polo Country Club Berlin Brandenburg e.V. is very satisfied with the third year of a tournament at this traditional venue in 2012: “We were able to welcome as many spectators as never before at the Maifeld. The entrance was free and the offer of food and beverages as well as the activities for our youngest guests was versatile. It was kind of a fair that was three times bigger than it was at the premiere two years ago. The collaboration with our event agency Sevendays poloevent is fantastic, I could not have thought of a better partner. Now I hope to get the acceptance for the German Championship 2013 of the German Polo Association. I am so excited of our success even if the family life was a little short in the last weeks… Now it will be a bit more quiet. And I will play the German Medium Goal Championship at Aspern Manor with my son Moritz – I am so proud of it and already totally excited.“
