At the end of the finale of the Hublot Polo Gold Cup in Gstaad, Switzerland with hot summer temperatures high above 30°C, the teams Star Design and Hublot were facing a 9:9. The hard fought match had to go in the fifth chukka.

Just a few second after the begin of the additional time the decisive goal was scored: with his fifth goal of the day the Argentine +7-scorer Pablo Jauretche saved his team the victory with this golden goal.

The teams Star Design and Hublot met already in the preliminary round – final result 10:7 for last year’s winner Team Hublot. In the finale Team Star Design tried everything to avoid repeating this result and started with the first goal of Pablo Jauretche. In the ongoing game the team of the German captain Albrecht Bach (0) extended its lead. In the middle of the third chukka it was a 8:3 for Star Design already. It already looked like the game has been decided.

But Gualtiero Gioro (+1), Eduardo Ferrari (+2), Tete Storni (+4) and the Argentine +7-scorer Franckie Menendez did not let their offenders win without a fight. With four goals of Franckie Menendez and two of Tete Storni Team Hublot came back impressively, turned the game around and led 9:8 shortly before the game ended. But Hublot reckoned without Juan Gonzales scoring the equalizing goal and rescuing Star Design into the additional time.

In the petite finale a hat trick of Lucas Labat (+6) in the fourth chukker saved the third place for Team Gstaad Palace. Final result of 6,5:5 for Piero Dillier (0), Thomas Wolfensberger (+1), Lucas Labat (+6) and Bautista Urbina (+6). Eva Brühl (+2), Sebastian Schneberger (+1), Ignacio Tillous (+6) and Valentin Novillo Astrada (+5) of Team Banque Baring Brothers Sturzda finished as the fourths.

The best professional player became Pablo Jauretche (Team Star Design), Sebastian Schneberger (Team Banque Baring Brothers Sturzda) was given the best amateur player. Top scorer was awarded to Franckie Menendez (Team Hublot) with a total of 30 goals.

On both days of the finale the four teams shot 54 goals all together (in addition to two 0,5 handicap goals). With every goal the main sponsor Hublot gave 200 Swiss Franc to the non-profit organization “Just World International“ – at the end it was a check of 11,000 Swiss Franc. The winning Star Design owner family Engelhorn raised this sum to 20,000 Swiss Franc and underlined their engagement for children projects in the Third World.
