Snow Polo Klosters, scheduled for January 16th to 20th 2013, is cancelled due to financial problems. Last year the event already made big financial losses because of a big missing title sponsor and very bad weather conditions.

The organizer – the Alpine Polo Club – has fought to find another titel sponsor for the event in 2013. „But the economic situation in Europe has meant marketing budgets are now greatly reduced by many companies. The acquired sponsorship for the 2013 event, however, would have been sufficient to hold the tournament with a balanced budget, but not sufficient to also pay all outstanding invoices incurred due to the 2012 tournament. The organizers’ positive budget for the planned 2013 event was submitted to the local community along with a request for a gesture by the community to cancel the majority of the 2012 open bills and provide a deficit guarantee of CHF 60.000 (GBP 40.000) for the worst case scenario budget for the 2013 event. The community’s reply to this request, which was received today, was unfortunately negative. Therefore the event has to be cancelled and the region has lost an event that in 2012 attracted eight international teams and a worldwide media reach of over 300 million, whilst generating an estimated CHF 5 million in direct and indirect revenue for the region of Davos-Klosters. We deeply regret to inform all participants on such short notice. We would like to thank all the players, sponsors, artists, helpers and the loyal suppliers for their continued support over the years and apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation might cause.“
