Zedan Polo has won the Dubai Cup 2016 after defeating Habtoor Polo by 8-7 in a great final at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, a new equestrian development in DubaiLand. Patron Amr Zedan’s team, with Rashid Bin Drai, Martín Gándara and Manuel Plaza achieved the last trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Season which ends with great success.

The final of the Dubai Cup was played at a great polo level with both teams battling till the very end for the victory. Zedan, after a great comeback in the last 7 minutes of the game, achieved the victory, and the trophy, thanks to patron´s Amr Zedan goal in the last action of the match.

Manuel Plaza was named the Most Valuable Player of the final and Doctor, played by Marcos Panelo and property of Habtoor Polo, was the Best Playing Pony.

Before the great final, Mahra Polo won the Subsidiary Final after defeating F4Z by 7-3.5. Mahra played a great match from the first minute and achieved a deserved victory to lift the subsidiary trophy.

The medium goal tournament was played by 5 teams with 8-10 goal handicap, and the tournament being the last of the season and part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series.

Dubai Gold Cup Series
Mohammed Al Habtoor founded the Dubai Gold Cup Series in 2009. The Gold Cup Series is played under the banner of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA). It attracts polo stars from around the world, VIPs, society figures as well as senior corporate executives from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This year in 2016, The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series reached to have a number of 5 tournaments under its umbrella (Silver Cup, Polo Masters Cup, Gold Cup, Dubai Challenge Cup and Dubai Cup).

The DPGC Series has wrapped up its latest season with resounding success. Each year the tournament reaches new heights. In 2012 the Dubai Gold Cup Series was recognized by the World Polo Tour (WPT) and in January 2014 the WPT committee announce that the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series’ has enabled it’s important tournament (Gold Cup) for being the highest tournament in points within the Challenge Cup category by raising to 50 points for the winners. The certificate of entry was presented by the international polo. In 2015 marked the first time ever that the World Polo Tour (WPT) upgraded the Tournament from ‘Challenge Cup’ to the highly coveted ‘WPT Cup’, meaning winners received 60 points. The 18-goal handicap competition is now the highest handicapped event in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, ranking it among the best polo tournaments worldwide.
