The deciding matches for securing a berth in the final of the 120th Argentine Open are about to begin. Tomorrow, on Saturday, November 30th, and on Sunday, December 1st, the participating teams have to mobilise their reserves once again to snatch one of the coveted places in the final.

Last weekend the matches of Zone A began with Chapaleufú Lange facing Alegría Sancor Seguros. Chapaleufú played well, but just as in the fight against Ellerstina they could not win out over their opponent. In the end, Alegría won by 19-16, their second win of the tournament after defeating La Aguada ICBC.

In the second match of the day Ellerstina met La Aguada. The teams were surprisingly evenly-matched: Ellerstina needed overtime to win by 14-13. Facundo Pieres (10) scored ten goals for Ellerstina, Mariano Aguerre (10) scored the winning goal. It was the second defeat La Aguada had to face. With their second win, Ellerstina is on course for further success.

The matches of Zone B on Sunday opened with quite a surprise. Team Magual, which had started with a handicap of 32, won against La Natividad Amarok. The foursome of Magual dominated the match and emerged victorious by 14-12. In the second match of the day La Dolfina Hope Funds defeated La Aguada Las Monjitas ICBC by 15-10. The team of Adolfo Cambiaso (10) was successful for the second time during the Argentine Open while it was the second loss for the team of the Novillo Astrada brothers.

Zone A’s matches for a place in the final on Saturday, November 30th, begin with La Aguada ICBC facing Chapaleufú Lange. Both teams are already out of the picture due to their losses in the matches before. In the second match Ellerstina will meet Alegría.

The teams of Zone B will compete on Sunday, December 1st. La Aguada Las Monjitas ICBC will encounter Magual, in the following match La Dolfina and La Natividad fight for a berth in the final match. If both Magual and La Natividad win their respective matches, the two teams as well as La Dolfina will have two wins to their names. There would be a triple draw in this group, which will mean that the goal differences will have to be taken into account. At this stage La Dolfina is in the lead (+11), followed by La Natividad (-1) and Magual (-4).

La Dolfina has already won this year’s trophies of the Tortugas Open and the Hurlingham Open. In case they win the Argentine Open, too, they will be overall winners of the Argentine Triple Crown.
