The Argentine Open in Palermo, the third stage of the Argentine Triple Crown, have started with a victory for favourite team Ellerstina Piaget. The three Pieres brothers Facundo (10), Gonzalo jr. (10) und Nicolás (9) as well as their brother-in-law Mariano Aguerre (10) defeated Alberto Heguy (7), Francisco Elizalde (7), Bautista Heguy (8) und Eduardo Heguy (8) of the opposing team Chapaleufú Lange by 23-14 in the opening game of the Argentine Open. At the beginning of the match Chapaleufú got off a better start and at the end of the first chukker the three Heguys and Francisco Elizalde lead by 2-1. But in the second chukker Ellerstina proceeded to attack and scored five consecutive goals. Chapaleufú could not make up leeway and the match ended with a clear victory for defending champion Ellerstina.

Alegría Sancor Seguros of Zone A met La Aguada ICBC in the second match of the day. The first half of the match was even and both teams could not take the lead by a wider margin. Not until the end of the fourth chukker Pablo Pieres (8), Hilario Ulloa (9), Lucas Monteverde (9) and Frederick Mannix (8) of Alegría could pull clear of the opponent by 8-5. But Facundo Sola (8), Guillermo Terrera (7), Miguel Novillo Astrada (9) and Ignatius Du Plessis (7) of La Aguada ICBC did not surrender without a fight and kept on Alegría’s tail. In the end Alegría prevailed against La Aguada by 16-13 and by that won an earned place in the semi-final.

In Zone B the second favourite team La Dolfina Hope Funds, this year’s winner of Tortugas Open and Hurlingham Open, encountered team Magual on Sunday. Alejandro Muzzio (8), Ignacio Toccalino (8), Marcos Di Paola (8) und Jaime García Huidobro (8) put up a good fight, but the team of Adolfo Cambiaso (10) took the lead and Magual could not come back from being down. In the end La Dolfina emerged victorious and won by 15-9.

In the last encounter of the opening weekend between La Natividad Amarok and La Aguada Las Monjitas ICBC turned out to be a very even match. Both teams swapped goals during the match and struggled for the lead. In the end Guillermo Caset (9), Ignacio Heguy (9), Rodrigo Ribeiro de Andrade (8) and Bartolomé Castagnola (9) defeated Lucas James (8), Cristián Laprida (8), Eduardo Novillo Astrada (9) and Alejandro Novillo Astrada (8) by 15-14 and won a place in the semi-final. The games of the Argentine Open continue on November 23rd with encounters of Zone A.
